As part of artist Chiharu Shiota's "Tidal Waves of Emotion" exhibition, VCCA, ICBC Vietnam, and Crabit Kidbooks are jointly organizing a creative reading workshop titled "I See… Tidal Waves of Emotion" for children aged 7-11.
“I See…” is a series of reading workshops for children organized by ICBC to help elementary school-aged children explore the world of art in exhibition spaces through reading and various creative activities. The books selected for the program will open up a journey of discovery, allowing children to experience the artwork and stories through their own imagination and language. Through this, each art exhibition will provide a beautiful and warm emotional connection for the young participants.
At artist Chiharu Shiota's "Tidal Waves of Emotion" exhibition, to explore the profound and evocative messages behind the image of the "white thread" in "A Long Day"—the thread connecting humanity in the universe, memories, and eternity—or the image of the "red thread" in "Tidal Waves of Emotion"—our journey through life with its existing connections, interwoven and tangled to create memories and experiences that shape who we are, the "I See..." workshop will invite children to read Matthew Cordell's "Wishes" series (published by Crabit Kidbooks) and reflect on Chiharu Shiota's works through their childlike eyes, page by page, and through the stories. Under the guidance of children's book author Pham Thi Hoai Anh and the coordination of educational curator Phuong Vu, young children will recreate what they "see..." in the works of artist Chiharu Shiota in their own artwork.
Author Matthew Cordell is a master of visual storytelling, having received the prestigious Caldecott Medal for children's book illustration. His three books, "Dreams," "Wishes," and "Hope," are told in a gentle, heartfelt, and deeply moving style, allowing children ample space to feel and visualize their journey into the world surrounded by love. Matthew Cordell's stories in the "Wishes" series resonate with the messages in the works of artist Chiharu Shiota. Reading these books is undoubtedly an exciting and wonderful journey of discovery for young readers.
